Before you look anywhere else for props start with The Driftwood Players. This theatre has been doing business for props since 1958. They will rent a page-full of props for a flat rate. They have a lot of 19th and early 20th century props as well as some unusual finds as they do a lot of Agatha Christie.

> Post on the TPS listserv.

> Place requests on Freecycle & Craigslist

> Try online auction sites like propertyroom.com & ebay

> Search for thrift stores online for locations, hours, and contact information. Call before you go if you are looking for rare or uncommon props.

> Contact auction houses. (Search: auctions cityname) Despite what you see on TV and the movies, most things go very cheaply, and auction houses allow absentee bidding. Many items are displayed and for sale in the store portion of auction houses. Read this basic guide to buying at auction if this is new to you. Bonus – auctions are fun.

Dry Ice Suppliers

About Dry Ice (from Wikipedia).

Dry ice is the solid form of carbon dioxide. It is used primarily as a cooling agent. Its advantages include lower temperature than that of water ice and not leaving any residue (other than incidental frost from moisture in the atmosphere).

Carbon dioxide gas changes to its solid state (dry ice) at 194.65 K (−78.5 °C; −109.3 °F). This extreme cold makes the solid dry ice dangerous to handle without protection due to burns caused by freezing (frostbite).

When dry ice is placed in water, direct transition from being a solid to a gas is accelerated, and low-sinking, dense clouds of smoke-like fog are created. This is used in fog machines, at theaters, haunted house attractions, and nightclubs for dramatic effects. Unlike most artificial fog machines, in which fog rises like smoke, fog from dry ice hovers near the ground. Dry ice is useful in theater productions that require dense fog effects. The fog originates from the bulk water into which the dry ice is placed, and not from atmospheric water vapor (as is commonly assumed).

Some large supermarket chains (like QFC) may sell dry ice through their fish departments. Also, search on: “dry ice” cityname
